Darwin’s Choice for Mountain Bike Maintenance and Servicing

The bike is a classic lesson in mechanical physics. Unable to remain upright on its own, human-fuelled force creates inertia that propels the machine forward. Rider weight coupled with sustained forward momentum is what keeps bikes from falling over. The adrenaline rush that comes from mountain biking is unparalleled. The unpaved landscape creates challenging courses for enthusiasts all around the world. Mountain bikes have reinforced frames, thicker wheels with more traction, and many gear settings to promote ease of ride. In short, mountain bikes are a streamlined machine comprised of many interconnected parts that work together to support rugged terrain riding. Like all machines, regular maintenance ensures that each component retains optimal performance quality. Cyclists can protect their bikes by keeping them clean and lubricated, but routine professional servicing is still strongly recommended. Blue Cycles performs premium-quality mountain bike servicing to Darwin and the surrounding community.

Do-It-Yourself Mountain Bike Maintenance

Are you someone who rides hard, comes home tired, and puts off after-ride bike care to a later date? Unlike cars, a dirty bike impacts its performance quality. Engineered for efficiency, a bike’s components are sized and placed with millimetre precision. When dirt adheres to your bike, it throws off its streamlined mechanics causing it to catch in places it shouldn’t which interferes with the smoothness of your ride. Likewise, when bikes do not maintain proper lubrication, the increased friction can wear down parts and cause them to jam – a rather unpleasant occurrence as you’re barrelling down a rocky path. A regular schedule of mountain bike maintenance is ideal for increasing its longevity.

Blue Cycles in Darwin carries all the equipment and products necessary to keep your mountain bike rolling smoothly. When it comes to mountain bike maintenance, we recommend following three simple steps: clean, protect, and lubricate. You’ll want to clean your bike with a bike-specific cleaner such as Muc Off’s Nano Tech Cleaner. Next, a coat of bike protection works the same way as wax on a car providing a sheen that resists dirt adherence. Finally, the right lubrication depends on your preferred terrain. Dry, dusty courses call for Muc Off C3 Ceramic Dry Lube, while Muc Off’s C3 Ceramic Wet Lube is designed for wet and muddy trails.

Multiple Mountain Bike Servicing Options at Blue Cycles

Unless you’re a bike technician with hoisting equipment and tools of various sizes, there are going to be repairs and maintenance that can’t be done at home. Bring your bike in to Blue Cycles where we have three mountain bike services for your selection. Our mountain bike service checks and repairs your bike from end to end and is offered in three packages.

The silver package is intended for bikes in good condition that need tightening and safety checks. The Gold package builds on the Silver package and adds break and chain cleaning, adjustments, and wheel rotation.

If your bike has been non-operational for an extended period or needs complete service, you’ll want to book the Blue Service. In addition to tasks performed in the Gold Package, we strip your bike down to the frame then degrease and clean all components. Even with proper home maintenance, to ensure your bike is rolling safely, we recommend you book a mountain bike service twice a year – before and after the wet season.
