BMX is bicycle motocross; which is bike racing on a dirt track with obstacles for jumping. When considering a BMX style bike, there are four different options. Freestyle bikes are designed to do tricks and stunts without the racing, so they are built with sturdy frames and no brakes. BMX Street bikes are similar to freestyle bikes; however, they incorporate more road elements. Racing bikes are designed to go around the dirt track, fast. They have lighter frames but are still robust enough to handle some jumps. Lastly, is a cross between a racing and freestyle bike, it is an excellent choice if you're just starting to get your feet wet in BMX or like to keep your options open.

BMX Maintenance

Regardless whether you require BMX street bike servicing or BMX racing bike servicing, regular maintenance is crucial and available from Blue Cycles. Due to the complex and sometimes risky nature of BMX, keeping your equipment in good shape is a paramount concern. we recommend BMX servicing twice a year, once before and once after the rainy season.

During the year, or between shop tune-ups, we advocate following a 3-step cleaning process (inspired by Muc-Off ®) for your bike. BMX racing bike servicing and maintenance are important, but you will dramatically extend the hours of enjoyment on your bike by following this simple cleaning process.

1. Following use, clean your bike with all-purpose bike specific cleaner. Pair this with a drivetrain cleaner or degreaser.
2. Once the bike is dry, apply a product that adds shine and protects, consider it a bonus if it also makes it more difficult for dirt to adhere to the frame the next time you ride.
3. Finally, you need lube. Remember depending on where you ride, wet vs. dry conditions, you will want a wet or dry lube that corresponds with those conditions.

These three simple steps in conjunction with regular servicing will not only provide you the security in knowing your bike is in optimal shape and can handle any BMX activity in which you participate. But will give additional years of enjoyment for you whether you race on the street, the dirt track or spend your time in the concrete jungle doing tricks.
